What the Cold Does to Motors:

Our friends at Mother Earth News explain that cold weather makes the engine hard to start for two reasons. First, oil thickens when it’s cold, which increases friction and makes it harder for the starter motor to spin the engine. Cold also slows the chemical reaction in the car’s battery, reducing its power output. Battery output is usually rated at 77°F, below which starting power drops drastically. At 5°F a fully charged lead-acid battery has only half its rated amp-hour capacity.

You can ensure that your car will start in the worst weather by keeping the engine or the battery, or both, warm. After researching several products that heat engines, batteries, and oil pans… we offer you our #1 pick of the decade. This product has won several awards including Contractor’s Choice, and WOC Best of Show Awards.

#1 - Powerblanket© motor warming and engine heating blankets heat the entire engine compartment including the battery, hoses, wiring, and fluids. As tested, we determined the Powerblanket© ExtraHot electric blankets to be 10 times more effective at keeping vital engine fluids warm compared to other methods. The Powerblanket© EH0405 is a 4 foot by 5 foot insulated electric 120V blanket that keeps the entire engine compartment toasty warm, even at -20F. We were pleasantly surprised to see how quickly the Powerblanket© heated up. Overnight testing was required to determine if the Powerblanket© could keep the battery and oil functioning at peak levels to avoid a cold start. Powerblanket© gets 2 thumbs up and a Platinum 5 Star rating. Anyone living in cold weather conditions owes it to themselves to own a Powerblanket© motor/engine heating blanket. Sizes range from 2×2 to 6×12 and do a remarkably good job of heating engines & batteries in cars, trucks, boats, snowmobiles, At Vs, and other motorized equipment operating in cold winter weather conditions.

LOOK FAMILIAR?

Keeping car batteries warm and dry during cold winter months can be a challenge, even for the experienced mechanic or car enthusiast. The best product we’ve tested (Hands Down) is the Powerblanket™ Battery heater 2×2 or the ExtraHot 4×5 which we found to be perfectly suited to heating everything under the hood including the battery and engine. It’s a no brainer! It heats up quickly and warms batteries and engines to desired tempeatures.

OK… maybe this is a little too extreme. But you get the point. Even this car would do well to have a Powerblanket™ close by. Roll it out, plug it in, and watch Powerblanket™ quickly melt away ice and snow from cars, motors, batteries, and more.
